June08

What a bunch of wild weather we have been having.  We all received a taste of hot weather for a few days this month and then back to fog.  I'm sure all the rhododendrons are much happier for it.  It actually was a scorcher during that time and lots of plants suffered for it.  Many of the Rhododendrons burned, but will recover just fine, the burned leaves hanging on as testament to the crazy heat wave.  You could manually remove them or just wait for the new growth to cover them up.  It is looking really nice in the nursery, lots of flowers and vegetables waiting to be planted.  June is still a great month for putting in a garden, it's not to late to plant beans, corn, squash, lettuce and more and we have lots of plants already to give you a head start.  See you in the nursery.

May at Millers

It has been a crazy spring for us at Miller Farms, but this is what we are all waiting for during the dark days of winter.  The nursery is brimming over with new plants coming in practically everyday except Sunday and Monday.  Annies Annuals is back and we are very happy about that, as well as some great veggies starts from our local growers as well as Sweetwater Nursery in Graton.  Check out our Mothers Day Sale starting May 8th until Sunday, May 11th.  We will be giving free gifts to the moms that come in with a 'Gardening Hat' (baseball caps don't count).   Cheeto has been having a great time with all the people coming in to say hello to him.  Have a wonderful May and see you in the nursery.  Mary

April

Well, that last frost caught us all off guard and many of our plants as well.  A few of our plants new growth was burned, but we expect most of them to recoop just fine and catch up.  The nursery is looking marvelous right now.  The flowering cherries are still in blooms with the crabapples popping next.  We have some gorgeous ones just getting ready to pop.  It really is feeling like spring despite the cold.  You can stop the plants from going through their paces.  We have some beautiful veggies (including organic) and herbs arriving daily.  Stop on by and check it all out.  Spring is flying by.
March 01

March08

Spring is just around the corner and we are all "champing at the bit" to get out into the garden.  The rhododendrons are in bloom and soon all the tables will be brimming over with new baby plants.

There are two workshops for March, one with Yvonne called 'Let's Talk Dirt':  this is going to be an interesting workshop and you will learn how to determine your soil type and then how it should be amended.  Bring about a 1 cup sample of your soil in a clear jar with a lid.  The other is with Mary and we will cover all you need to know about successfull seed starting.

We have a great selection of strawberries and they are so easy to grow in the ground or even in containers.  Out of space?  You might even try some in hanging baskets.

Don't miss the coupons on the website.  See you in the nursery.  Mary

February08

The winter months are always a surprise for us here on the Northcoast.  This past snow storm was so much fun to watch (except for those who had to drive in it).  It reminds us to keep an eye on the weather so we can protect are more tender plants: citris, fuchsias, princess flower, bougainvilla, geraniums...  Most can handle temperatures to 32'F.  After that keep blankets or Insulite available to quickly throw over them.  We are gearing up for spring with an array of organic fertilizers and sprays.  We have done a little rearranging in the store and made more room in the gift area.  Lots of great ideas and hilarious cards for your valentine.  As you can see from the photos, even though it's the dead of winter, we do have lots of blooming plants both inside and out.  Stop on by and visit us and Cheeto.  See you in the nusery.
